Work Experience

Work Experience is an important part of the Year 10 and Year 12 Curriculum and is an excellent opportunity for young people to gain an insight into the ‘World of Work’ and to help prepare them for the responsibilities and opportunities of adult life. We believe that it improves understanding of how business and industry operate, improves self-confidence, self-reliance, and maturity, and also helps students develop skills which they will need throughout their life. We know it can be one of the most transformational experiences young people have during their education.

All Year 10 and Year 12 students will be expected to take part in our Work Experience programme from Monday 8th to Friday 12th July 2024.

More information on work experience and how parents can help their children can be found on the Meridian Career Pathways website.

In order for students to gain the valuable job-hunting skills which are so important in today’s job market, we ask that all students take responsibility for planning and finding their own placements. However, if families are particularly concerned about this process, please get in touch with Mrs Manley, AManley@stratton.school.

We will be using Unifrog (www.unifrog.org) to manage the administration of the work experience programme – for example collecting information from the employer about their Risk Assessment and Health & Safety policy, as well as getting agreement from families for the placement to go ahead. Students should start researching companies and asking family and friends if they know any employers that could take them on for the week. Students should make contact with lots of companies, and then agree a placement with one. There is further information and a useful email example within the PowerPoint that we have attached. It’s important that students make note of the employer’s contact details (Name, Email, Business Address).

Unifrog have created a set of guides about placements which can be found on their website, please click HERE to view them. The resources include a ‘How To’, the legal details explained, guides for students, guides for employers, FAQs and how to communicate online safely and professionally.
