Visiting Stratton
We look forward to welcoming you to Stratton School. Whether you are visiting for a meeting, attending an event, working on site, or exploring our facilities, we aim to make your visit welcoming, informative and safe.
Before You Visit
- Where possible, please arrange your visit in advance so that the appropriate member of staff is available to meet you.
- If you require accessible parking, mobility assistance, step-free access, hearing or visual support, or any other reasonable adjustment, please contact us before your visit. We will be happy to make suitable arrangements.
- We have ample visitor parking available on site and spaces do not need to be booked in advance.
Arriving at School
All visitors should report to Main Reception upon arrival.
You will be asked to:
- Sign in using our electronic visitor management system.
- Wear your visitor badge and lanyard at all times whilst on site.
- Follow any instructions provided by members of staff.
Before leaving, please sign out and return your visitor badge and lanyard.
Visiting for Meetings, Appointments or Events
Parents, carers and visitors attending meetings, appointments, school events or guided tours are welcome to visit the school. For most routine visits, photographic identification is not required. However, all visitors must remain signed in and wear their visitor badge and Red Lanyard whilst on site.
Visitors Requiring DBS and Identification Checks
As part of our commitment to safeguarding, some visitors will be required to provide evidence of identity and DBS clearance before being granted access to certain areas of the school.
This includes visitors who:
- Work directly with students, such as a visiting music teacher
- Provide services on site.
- Require access to school premises.
Please bring:
- A valid photographic ID.
- An original DBS certificate
- Any additional professional credentials relevant to your visit, including your own company ID badge, if provided
Visitors may be refused access if the required safeguarding documentation cannot be provided.
Visitor Identification and Lanyard System
To help maintain a safe and secure environment for all students, staff and visitors, Stratton School operates a colour-coded identification and lanyard system. All adults on site must be clearly identifiable at all times.
Stratton School Staff
All Stratton School staff wear an official school-issued ID badge and lanyard, which should remain visible at all times
Meridian Trust Core Team Staff
Employees of Meridian Trust Core Team wear an approved Trust ID badge and lanyard. These should be displayed at all times whilst visiting the school.
Visitors from Other Meridian Trust Schools
Colleagues visiting from other Meridian Trust schools must report to Main Reception and sign in using our electronic visitor management system. Once their identity has been verified through the system, they may continue to wear their own school-issued Meridian Trust ID badge and lanyard for the duration of their visit.
Other Visitors
All other visitors must sign in at Reception and will be issued with a visitor badge and the appropriate colour-coded lanyard, which must be worn and remain visible at all times whilst on site.
This system helps us maintain high standards of safeguarding and ensures that students, staff and visitors can easily identify who is authorised to be on the school site.
🟢 Green Lanyard
DBS-Checked Visitors
Issued to visitors who have provided:
- Valid photographic identification.
- Evidence of an appropriate DBS check verified by the school.
- Have been recorded on the school system as an approved visitor
A green lanyard indicates all safeguarding checks have been completed and verified.
🔴 Red Lanyard
Visitors Without a Verified DBS Check
Issued to visitors attending meetings, appointments or events during the school day. who do not require a DBS check, or whose DBS status has not been verified. Visitors wearing a red lanyard do not undertake unsupervised work with students and will be required to remain accompanied by a member of Stratton Staff at all times. In most cases, this will be a family touring the school, or a parent meeting a teacher/ support team member during the school day.
🟠 Orange Lanyard
Approved Contractors and Supply Staff
Issued to contractors, agency workers and supply staff whose identity and DBS status have been verified by the school and are under contract for a bought in service at Stratton School.
School Opening Hours
Visitors are encouraged to arrange appointments in advance. Walk in appointments are not issued unless in a case of absolute emergency. For general enquiries or to arrange a visit, please contact Reception:

Visitor Information
Mobile Phones
To help maintain a calm and focused environment for students, visitors are kindly asked not to use mobile phones whilst on the school site. Phones are requested to be turned off on arrival.
Photography and Video
Photography and video recording are not permitted on the school site without prior permission. When attending performances, showcases or sporting events, parents and carers may take photographs of their own child. However, we respectfully ask that images are not shared on social media platforms.
Fire and Emergency Procedures
If the fire alarm sounds (a dual tone alarm bell):
- Leave the building immediately using the nearest exit.
- Follow the green emergency exit signs.
- Stay with your host, who will escort you to the assembly point.
- Do not take personal risks.
- Do not re-enter the building until instructed that it is safe to do so.

First Aid
If you feel unwell or require first aid assistance:
- Inform your host immediately, or
- Report to Main Reception.
Qualified first aiders and first aid equipment are available throughout the school.
Health & Safety
The safety of everyone on site is extremely important.
Visitors and contractors must:
- Follow all health and safety instructions provided.
- Observe site safety signage.
- Comply with any specific safety requirements relevant to their visit or work.
By following these guidelines, visitors help us meet our duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Smoking and Vaping
Stratton School operates a smoke-free site. Smoking, vaping and the use of e-cigarettes are not permitted anywhere on school grounds.
Safeguarding Information for Visitors
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
All adults visiting or working at Stratton School play an important role in helping to keep students safe.
Please remember:
- Do not initiate inappropriate verbal or physical contact with students.
- Do not give students your personal contact details.
- Do not communicate with students via personal social media accounts.
- Do not provide personal email addresses to students.
- Never agree to keep a safeguarding concern or disclosure a secret.
- Report any safeguarding concern immediately to a member of staff or via Main Reception.
If a student shares information that concerns you:
- Listen carefully.
- Do not promise confidentiality.
- Explain that you must pass the information on to keep them safe.
- Report the concern immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or a member of the safeguarding team.
