75 Years of Stratton School
In October 2025, we will celebrate our 75th year of Education in Biggleswade.
A brief history of our school
Stratton school was originally constructed during the late 1940s, being built in such a fashion that it could be used as a hospital in the event of another major conflict akin to the Second World War. The school first opened its doors to students in 1950 as "Biggleswade Grammar-Technical School" though much of the facility remained unfinished at this time and construction would continue over the following years, with the site not finally completed until 1956.
In 1976 the facility was one of many grammar schools in Britain during the period to become a comprehensive. This culminated in a transformative period during the mid-2000s. Stratton was subsequently the first school in the Biggleswade area to apply for and gain academy status in 2011.
The school was designated as a teacher training school in 2003.
An extensive expansion of the site was completed in 2018, with the opening of a new science block and the remodelling of the school's façade.
The school joined the Cambridge Meridian Academy Trust in 2020 (Now Meridian Trust)
The Norwich City FC partnership commenced in 2021 for students in the Matt King 6th Form Norwich Academy | Stratton School

We are delighted to share one of the many papers in the archive of Mr Blayney's first devised school badge, created by conflating the arms of the Barnett and Cotton families (owners of Stratton Manor, to which the land originally belonged), and appropriating the bee (symbol of industry) from the Peel family of Sandy.
The original four houses were Lincoln, Pembroke, Cotton, and Barnett.
