Academic Mentoring

Academic Mentoring  is a 1:1 meeting between the student and tutor at key points across the year.

Your child’s tutor will discuss their latest report, progress and how they are feeling about school. This will be shared with you via MCAS as a neutral event.

Academic Mentoring Update 2025–26

During the first term at Stratton, learners from all year groups have met with their Form Tutors for the first round of Progress Reviews (PR1). During these meetings, learners discussed their academic progress, considered potential barriers to their learning, and identified the next steps needed to improve their outcomes.

The aim is for all learners to set themselves three SMART targets during each academic mentoring meeting. These targets should reflect each learner’s individual priorities and be realistic, achievable, and time-bound. Students lead on creating their SMART targets, with tutors offering guidance and agreement, so that learners can take full ownership of their goals. These targets are then communicated to families so that all stakeholders can support learners in achieving their agreed aims.

The GROW model has been used to structure the questioning and discussions, helping students to engage meaningfully in the process and set targets they believe will genuinely support them in reaching their potential at Stratton.

Please discuss your child’s targets with them, and contact their Form Tutor if you have any further questions.
