Student Leadership

Student leadership at Stratton School plays a vital role in shaping a positive, inclusive and aspirational community. Our mission is for every individual to be known, valued and supported, and student leadership is central to ensuring that all learners feel a strong sense of belonging.

At Stratton, student leadership provides structured opportunities for pupils to share their views, influence decision‑making and take responsibility for improving their school. Our leaders act as peer mentors and ambassadors, empowering others to contribute ideas, raise concerns and work collaboratively with staff. This partnership ensures that school policies, initiatives and daily practices reflect the lived experiences of students, creating a more responsive and supportive environment. Most recently, for example, our Student Leadership team contributed feedback on the structure of the school day, including break and lunchtime arrangements.

Student voice is powerful because it nurtures ownership and belonging. When students feel heard and valued, they are more engaged in their learning and more invested in wider school life. By listening closely to pupil perspectives, we foster mutual respect and trust, encouraging young people to express themselves with confidence and clarity. These skills are essential not only for school, but for future education, employment and active citizenship in the wider community.

Student leadership at Stratton strongly reflects our core values of kindness, engagement and ambition.

  • Kindness is shown when leaders advocate for their peers, promote inclusivity and support wellbeing across the school. Through initiatives such as our anti‑bullying charter, they help to build a culture rooted in empathy and respect.
  • Engagement is demonstrated through active participation in leadership opportunities. Our leaders model strong attitudes to learning, attendance and behaviour, inspiring their peers to get involved and take pride in their school.
  • Ambition is fostered as students take on responsibility, develop leadership skills and strive for personal excellence. These roles encourage high expectations and align with the Meridian Trust vision of empowering young people to reach their full potential.

Student leadership at Stratton School is a powerful vehicle for elevating student voice and living out our values of kindness, engagement and ambition. It ensures that students not only contribute to the culture of the school today but grow as confident, compassionate and motivated leaders for the future.
